Continued from a note from LG...So what does a Rumbutan taste like anyway? The small Chinese woman looked at me and laughed. I can't explain how something tastes, if you want to find out you'll have to taste it for yourself....
This is in essence what Jesus tells the Pharisees when they asked him when and where the Kingdom of God would come. Jesus response, you won't find the Kingdom over here or over there, you won't find it by looking out there, because the Kingdom of God is within you. Jesus reminds us that the Kingdom of God must be experienced with the human heart. Just like you can't taste something with your ear, you can't experience the Kingdom with your intellect, it is the job of the heart.
Jesus came and mended our hearts so we could experience the Kingdom within us and now it is up to us to choose to live there. Paul tells us that we have two choices, we can live in the kingdom of death, where sin is the force that constantly pulls us away from life towards death, or we can live in the kingdom of life where grace is the force that constantly pulls us towards life. Let's choose life... it's a better neighborhood...
Baptism is the outward sign of our decision to move from the kingdom of death and live in the kingdom of life; God's kingdom. I want to encourage everyone that would like to make a public declaration of that decision to be baptized. Maybe you were baptized as a child or a teen, I want to encourage you to consider being baptized again, not because it didn't stick or you need it for salvation, but as an adult with an adult understanding of the decision that you've made, to live under the rule and reign of God in his Kingdom right here and right now. In the next couple of weeks we will be scheduling a baptism celebration at our home (the pool will be heated). A few people have already told me that they want to explore this, so if the Lord is leading you this way, or if you are considering it, please let me know and we can discuss if further.
